Barry Lyndon – 5/28/07 – Viewed on the small screen
I’ve now seen every post-Lolita Kubrick movie and appreciate him even more. While all of his movies are very different from each other I feel like this one was even more different than the others. This is an 18th Century Epic and probably one of the best I’ve seen and definitely one of the most interesting. The story and adventure about Irishman Redmond Barry take him and us all over Europe. Like all Kubrick movies this one is long and deserves and demands your full attention. If you give it your all you will be rewarded. One of my favorite aspects of the movie was the elegant music and the scenes where Kubrick pans out from a close view to a large panorama of beautiful scenery. One of Kubrick’s goals was to only use natural light while filming. He accomplished this by putting a NASA lens used to detect faint light in space on his camera. This supposedly gives the movie a more realistic feel since there was only natural light in the 18th century. Whether or not it actually does is debatable but the fact that he did it is cool nonetheless. It's consdered a classic.
