About a Boy

About a Boy
– 5/30/02 – Viewed on the BIG Screen
I’m reviewing this one way after I originally saw it so I can include it on my site.  I’m doing this because this is by far my favorite romantic comedy ever.  The music is superb (written and performed by Badly Drawn Boy), the screenplay was adapted from a novel by Nick Hornby (High Fidelity) and it is set in London.  Cool music, check.  Cool story, check.  Cool city, check.  And the character Hugh Grant plays fits him perfectly. He’s a stylish, cheeky, sleaze ball who lives off his Dad’s song writing royalties and comes up with ways of tricking the opposite sex into sleeping with him.  It is funny throughout and has a happy ending but maintains its coolness without being too much of a typical romantic comedy.

9 out of 10 Recommendation: YES for anyone
